A former Australian and New Zealand Amateur champion, it's an understatement to say Matt Jager had an excellent amateur career. The Melville Glades Member became the first person since Lucas Parsons to win the National Amateur titles on both sides of the Tasman, setting high expectations for when he finally turned professional. He did just that towards the end of 2010, just in time for the JBWere Masters at Victoria Golf Club. In only his second professional event, the 2010 NSW Open, Jager impressed to finish fourth. A year later however he bettered this result, finishing second in the 2011 WA Open.
