In 2008, Matt was one of Australia's most promising amateur golfers with the number 3 ranking in the world. Since turning Pro and joining the PGA Tour of Australasia in 2008, he has had plenty of commendable performances. But he really stamped his mark on the Tour in 2011 when he won the South Pacific Open in New Caledonia. The following year he finshed runner-up to Kiwi Brad Shilton in his title defence. Matt also competes on the OneAsia tour and it wasn't long after his first Professional victory that he recorded his first international victory at the Charity High 1 Open in Korea. Traditionally a challenging place for Australians to compete Matt proved this wrong again winning on OneAsia in Korea at the 2013 SK Telecom Open. This lead to his also winning the OneAsia Order of Merit. In early 2014 Matt produced one of his most memorable victories to date as well as his first on home soil at the Victorian Open. He won the title in a three hole play off against Matthew Stieger.

In 2014 Griffin is also competing on the Asian Tour.  In early 2016, Griffen was successful at The BMW ISPS Handa New Zealand Open claiming victory by a one stroke margin and a top 10 finish at the FIji International.  As a result of good form, Griffin 2016 lead the PGA Tour of Australasia in which enabled him to enter the WGC- Mexico and play among the worlds best as well as qualify for the Open Championship in July 2017 at Royal Birkdale.
