James joined the PGA Tour of Australasia in 2004 and had his first taste of success on the Hooters Tour in the US. In 2009 James earned full status on the PGA TOUR having finished second at Qualifying School. With two top-10 finishes he retained status for the 2010 season. Playing 30 events James recorded his best finish on the PGA TOUR, a third at the Peurto Rico Open however making the cut in only half his starts he failed to retain his card. With full status on the Web.com Tour in 2011 James won the Midwest Classic, which helped him to get to 26th on the Nationwide money list, one spot short of a promotion to the PGA TOUR.
2012 was a mixed year on the Web.com Tour with one top-10 finish from seven made cuts he retained conditional status for 2013. James managed to hold on to his conditional status again for the 2014 season. In 2015 James experienced a return to form and managed to win the South-Pacific open championship. Although James has focused much of his career in the US he has always been a supporter of his home Tour and regularly competes in the Australian summer of golf.
Recently has been playing on the PGA Tour of Australasia. James' most recent win was in 2015 where he won the South Pacific Open Championship by a 6 shot margin.
