Matthew turned professional in 1999 and from 2006 - 2009 he played on the European tour with his best year end result being 115th on the order of merit. In 2011 he qualified for his first major in the Open Championship and finished T63. 2015 has been a successful year for him so far with his first tour win at the Holden New Zealand PGA Championship and several other strong finishes throughout the year.
Matthew since 2015 has been playing consistently good golf recording 19 top 10 finishes, including winning the Holden NZ PGA Championship.
2015 is undoubtedly Matthews most successful year to date with 4 second place finishes and 11 results better than 10th place. In 2016, Matthew had a 2nd place finish at the Oates Vic Open and a 3rd place finish at the Mercedes Benz Truck and Bus Victorian PGA Championship on the PGA Tour of Australasia.
2017 has been another great year for Matthew on the PGA Tour of Australasia where he finished 2nd at the QLD PGA Championship, T3 at the WA PGA Championship, 7th at the ISPS Handa World Super 6 in Perth and an 8th place finish at the Victorian PGA Championship.
