Steve turned Professional in 1999 after completing a PGA Traineeship. He turned his focus on the PGA Tour of Australasia in 2001 after earning his card via Qualifying School. In 2009, 2011 and 2012 he returned to Qualifying School each time earning status. In 2012 he finished second which then sparked a run of good form which saw him qualify for his first major, The Open Championship via International Qualifying School.  During his career Steve has also played on the OneAsia tour and earned a Tour card via Qualifying School for the 2014 Japan Golf Tour.

Jeffress made history in 2014 by becoming the inaugural winner of the Fiji International played at Natadola Bay Championship Golf Course.  It has been his most significant win to date at 38 year old's the win earned him a prize cheque of US$180,000.

Steve won the 2014 Fiji International in which was his first win on the PGA Tour of Australasia where he won by 4 strokes on a windy Sunday afternoon.

In 2015 Steve played in 2 World Golf Championship events on The PGA Tour  where he finished T62 and 75th overall.
