Michael Hendry turned Professional in 2005 after giving up a promising cricket career which had seen him represent New Zealand at the Under 19 Cricket World Cup. Attending PGA Tour of Australasia Qualifying School in 2006, Hendry earned limited starts on the Tour in 2007. He again attended Qualifying School gaining a small number of starts in 2008. It wasn't until 2009 that Hendry played a full schedule on the PGA Tour of Australasia, where the recorded three top-5 finishes in eight starts. In 2010 he also competed on the OneAsia Tour where he recorded his first Professional victory.

He defended his title in 2013 but is yet to try for a third NZ PGA Championship with the tournament not played in 2014. In 2012 Hendry attended Japan Tour Qualifying School earning a card for the 2013 season.
