One of Australia's most consistent golfers, Richard joined the PGA Tour of Australasia in 1992. Four years later he joined the European Tour, where he has spent the majority of his career since. Richard's first European Tour win came at the 1997 Dubai Desert Classic, where he became the first left-hander to win on the Tour since Sir Bob Charles at the Swiss Open in 1974.
In 2004 Richard broke through for his first win on home soil at the MasterCard Masters. That same year he also topped the PGA Tour of Australasia Order of Merit. Green holds a share of the course record at Carnoustie with a 64, achieved in the final round of the 2007 Open Championship. The round saw him jump 27 places on the last day of the tournament to finish in a tie for 4th with Ernie Els.
Green has recorded 3 European Tour wins.
Outside of golf, Green is a keen motor racing fan and owns a Porsche 911 racing car in which he has competed in the Australian GT Championship on occasion as touring schedules allow.

- Won the 2015 Victorian Open and fiancée Marianne Skarpnord won the Ladies Victorian Open both held at Thirteenth Beach Golf Links.
- Made headlines after making a remarkable hole-in-one albatross during the 2015 Victorian Open Pro-am.
