Vale Jock Borthwick


The PGA and Australian golf industry today celebrates the life of PGA Life Member John ‘Jock’ Thorburn Borthwick who passed away this week.

Jock came to Australia from Scotland in 1947 aged 16 and completed his apprenticeship at Nedlands Golf Club in 1948 under Charles Jackson.

He achieved success as Head Professional at Seaview Golf Club, the West Australian Golf Club, Royal Fremantle Golf Club, Lake Karrinyup Country Club and Kwinana Golf Club.

Jock was President of the PGA of Australia from 1968 – 1979 and again became President in 1986, He designed and developed golf courses at Lancelin and Ledge Point, where he spent his retirement.

The funeral service will be held at Fremantle Crematorium this today, Thursday 29 March at 12:30pm.

Jock is survived by his wife Carola, daughters Susan, Miriam and grandchildren Matthew, James, Helena and Jonathan.
