This August, the Australian golf community and Challenge are asking golf clubs around Australia to dedicate a member’s day to the memory of Jarrod Lyle to help raise important funds for Challenge, who support kids living with cancer.

"DoingHaving been diagnosed with cancer three times throughout his life, Jarrod Lyle understood the hardship that young people and their families face when battling this disease. Jarrod was an ambassador for Challenge, and Jarrod’s Gift is the legacy created in his honour. All monies raised through #DoingItForJarrod will go towards his goal of helping Challenge provide practical support throughout a child’s cancer journey.

In support of Jarrod’s legacy, Challenge asks all golf clubs around the country to get involved in #DoingItForJarrod this August, the month of his birthday and passing, by dedicating a competition day in his memory to raise funds for this important cause.

Challenge supports children and their families living with cancer, and lightens the cancer journey for the whole family by providing practical support and fun experiences 365 days of the year.

“To be able to continue helping other children and families through a cancer diagnosis on behalf of Jarrod is something that’s really important to me" said Briony Lyle, Jarrod’s wife.

"With the help of golf clubs around Australia, we’ll hopefully be able to raise important funds in support of Jarrod’s legacy.”

To support and thank clubs for their involvement, all clubs that participate will be entered in the draw to win an invitation to play alongside golf’s best in the ISPS HANDA PGA Tour of Australasia and European Tour co-sanctioned Australian PGA Championship pro-am to be held on Wednesday 18 December at RACV Royal Pines Resort on the Gold Coast.

“Jarrod’s work with Challenge was incredibly important and while he is no longer here to facilitate his own events in support of the charity, we as a golfing community feel it important to continue his legacy,” said Gavin Kirkman, CEO of the PGA of Australia, which owns the ISPS HANDA PGA Tour of Australasia.

“We are honoured to partner with Challenge for this initiative, and with such a strong connection to both Challenge and Jarrod Lyle we believed it would be fitting to offer a lucky participant the chance to play alongside the best in the Australian PGA Championship pro-am at a world-class golf tournament.”

Golf Australia CEO Stephen Pitt emphasised the importance of the #DoingItForJarrod initiative and how even the smallest of events can have a big impact.

“One of Jarrod’s great abilities was to be able to hear and help people and golf clubs that didn’t have a big voice,” Pitt said. “He did things, no matter the size or effort required, when he could. This is our way to follow suit, big or small, to ensure his legacy will continue.”

Encouraging members to dress in yellow, creating a yellow theme and selling Challenge merchandise at your club are just some of the ways funds can be raised at club events this August, with tax deductable donations also accepted.

“Having known Jarrod since his first diagnosis, I watched him grow as an individual and sportsman. His capacity to empathise and connect with people was truly remarkable. His gift and legacy to Challenge is ensuring that other families travelling the cancer journey are supported,” said Challenge CEO David Rogers.
