""The first round of the Mitchell and Brown Spalding Park Open teed off yesterday, always an event that brings some great memories back for players.

One of them being the current Coca-Cola QLD PGA Champion Daniel Fox who won this event back in 2012.

“I love coming back to this event, the Clarkson family and Spalding Park Golf Club run an amazing event that is second none. In regards to the golf course, it is always in pristine condition and the greens could no doubt be the best we putt on all year,” said Fox.

“It seems so long ago the win but when I get back on this course all the memories come flooding back. My game feels great and I really want to finish off the series well and there’s no better place to start.” .

After a wet sponsors day, players were met by a perfect day and course to commence the 54-hole event and they had certainly brought their A-games.

Stephen Dartnall dominated the back-9 early to turn mid-round at 5-under par, bringing it home in 2-under to post a very solid 7-under 65.

The 2008 champion Rick Kulacz also set a blistering pace joining Dartnall at the top of the leaderboard, his 7-under par round included nine birdies and two bogies.

Close behind the two leaders is regular WA visitor Leigh McKechnie with 6-under par 66 and Daniel Fox on 5-under par 67.

Round two is now underway.
