Steel Scene Peel Pro-Am attracts star field

The City of Mandurah is once again set to host the Steelscene Peel Pro-Am which returns to the WA leg of the Ladbrokes Pro-Am Series in May.

The City of Mandurah is once again set to host the Steelscene Peel Pro-Am which returns to the WA leg of the Ladbrokes Pro-Am Series in May.

""The three-day event which returns to the calendar for the second consecutive year will once again be hosted by the Peel Region’s premier courses, Mandurah Country Club, The Cut Golf Course and Meadow Springs Country Club.

With a substantial $35,000 of prize money on offer for the professionals, this year’s event is sure to be a favourite amongst players teeing off in WA’s Pro-Am schedule.

“We are once again looking forward to hosting the professionals and amateurs alike back at Mandurah CC, The Cut and Meadow Springs CC. The event attracted some of Australia’s best up and coming professionals last year and looking at the entries, this year is going to be another stellar field,” said Grant Shortland-Jones the General Manager at Mandurah Country Club.

Crowned “PGA Pro-Am of the Year” in 2016, the event will be played from 16-18 May in the same Pro-Am format, giving local and visiting amateurs the opportunity to tee it up with a PGA Professional.

“In conjunction with The City of Mandurah, Mandurah Country Club and Meadow Springs Country Club, The Cut Golf Course is proud to be a part of The 2018 Steel Scene Peel Pro-Am. We are very fortunate to be in an area that has an abundance of world-class golf courses and to be hosting the final day of this event is an absolute honour,” said The Cut’s General Manager Neill Davey.

The Mandurah Country Club and The Cut both have a history of hosting PGA tournaments, including the WA PGA Championship at The Cut in 2007 and 2008.  Bringing a new flavour to this year’s event will be Meadow Springs Country Club who will host the second round of the Peel Pro-Am.  No stranger to staging professional events, Meadow Springs has also played host to the WA Open on several occasions.

“Meadow Springs is proud to commit to this local event for a second time. Exposing our wonderful course to such a broad national field of players will only help build our fine reputation and three great days of golf at three leading courses can only enhance our appeal as W.A.’s prime golf destination,” said Meadow Springs CC General Manager Scott Proctor

“Three of WA’s great golf courses, with an amazing prize purse, this will definitely make the Peel Pro-Am a favourite on the Pro-Am schedule," said Kim Felton, WA State Manager for the PGA of Australia.

“The three Clubs have put in a huge effort to offer this fantastic playing opportunity to our members and we commend their collaborative effort.”

Felton continued, “We must also recognise the City of Mandurah for their continued support of this event.  We are excited to be working with all involved parties again in 2018 to deliver golf to the region.”

“We are delighted to welcome the players, spectators and all those involved in the new Steel Scene Pro-Am back in Mandurah,” said MAPTO CEO Karen Priest.

“The competition offers us the opportunity to showcase our superb golf courses as recently recognised with the inclusion of three of our golf courses in the Great Golf course of Australia programme. Bringing sporting events like this to Mandurah is part of our overall strategy to showcase our diverse region and drive visitation. I wish the players all the very best in the competition.”

A strong field from all over Australia will be showcased at this year’s Steel Scene Peel Pro-Am event including WA local and 2017 NZ PGA Champion Jarryd Felton, Ryan Lynch, long time touring professional and 2018 WA PGA champion Michael Long and former Perth local Brady Watt.
