Former PGA Tour professional Michael Sim has fired a bogey-free round of 7-under 64 to claim victory in the Murwillumbah Golf Club Coca-Cola Pro-Am and his first win on the Ladbrokes Pro-Am Series for the year.
Gold Coast-based Sim came from nowhere to finish on top of the leaderboard, after making birdies on five of his last six holes.
“I was watching the leaderboard and I knew I needed a strong finish to have any chance,” Sim said.
“I’ve played this event four of the last five years now and knowing the course, I think really helps.
“I hit the ball well today but really I just got the putter going on the back-9, and everything just started to fall in the hole.”
Finishing in outright second position with a score of 6-under 65 was Lincoln Tighe who got off to a terrific start when he made eagle on his second hole of the day, 492m par-5, 11th hole.
“I haven’t played here for twelve years and the improvements they have made are incredible, this golf course is outstanding,” Tighe said.
The next best placed professional was New South Welshman Dale Williamson who recorded a round of 5-under 66.
Murwillumbah Golf Club was recognised earlier in the year when they were awarded the 2018 QLD Golf Industry Awards Regional Tournament of the Year.
The next stop on the Ladbrokes Pro-Am Series is the Coolangatta & Tweed Heads Golf Club for the E-Z-GO “Elite” Pro-Am where play begins at 7.00am Friday 16 August 2019.
