Michael Sim and Matthew Ballard have teamed up to claim the coveted QLD PGA Foursomes Championship at Sanctuary Cove Golf and Country Club.

""The QLD Foursomes Championship is rich in history dating back to 1955 with the championship’s honour role featuring Ian Baker-Finch, Peter Senior, Peter McWhinney, Scott Hend with Ballard and Sim the latest to etch their names on the trophy.

Sim and Ballard were two shots behind heading into the afternoon round after an opening round of even par 70. The pair closed with a 4-under 66 to claim victory by two shots.

This is the second time the pair has won the QLD PGA Foursomes Championship having taken out the title back in 2015.

“We combined really well today and especially in this afternoon’s round,” said Sim.

“We didn’t try and do too much today, we just kept the ball in play.”

With Ballard adding, "We were playing with Paul Sanders and Brad Kennedy and they were on a roll this afternoon.

“We had to fight hard to maintain our lead over the finishing holes as the field were closing in. It was a great day and we really enjoyed each other’s company out there.”

Local knowledge assisted the combination of Paul Sanders and Brad Kennedy who fired rounds of 73 and 65 which was the low round of the day to storm home and into outright second position on a total of 2-under par.

“We played great this afternoon,” said Sanders.

“We made birdies on three of our last four holes to shoot 5-under on the back-9.”

Peter Senior partnered with Greg Rix to win the QLD Senior PGA Championship firing rounds of 71 and 75 for a tournament total of 6-over par.

“We really enjoyed the course and it was great to play with my good friend Peter today,” said Rix.

Corey Jeuken recorded the shot of the day when he aced the par-3 11th hole. The 27-year-old based out of the Virginia Golf Club hit a 7 iron from 160 meters finding the bottom of the cup to claim the third hole-in-one of his career.
