Professional golf returns to Murray Bridge

PGA Professionals from across Australia are set to excite at the Murray Bridge PGA Classic this April.

PGA Professionals from across Australia are set to excite at the Murray Bridge PGA Classic this April.

"JasonThe Murray Bridge PGA Classic will again be one of the feature events on the South Australian swing of the Ladbrokes Pro-Am Series this April. The event remains a popular one amongst the Professionals especially as it’s one of the only 54 hole tournaments on the pro-am schedule.

“A lot of our Professionals use events like the Murray Bridge PGA Classic to prepare for bigger four round tournaments on the ISPS HANDA PGA Tour of Australasia later in the year,” said Heath McLeod Tournament Coordinator at the PGA of Australia.

“Last year we saw South Australian local Jason Norris win here at Murray Bridge before winning the Fiji International, a tri-sanctioned event by the ISPS HANDA PGA Tour of Australasia, European Tour and Asian Tour,” added McLeod.

Winning the Fiji International earned Norris status on the lucrative European Tour and therefore his schedule won’t permit a return visit to Murray Bridge, however, he sends his best wishes to the tournament organisers.

“The Murray Bridge PGA Classic is always a wonderful event and I was honoured to be the 2017 champion. The prize money I received from my win took a lot of pressure off me financially which helped me win the Fiji International,” said Jason Norris.

“I am disappointed to miss my title defence this year but I will certainly be watching, from afar, with interest to see who is able to claim the win this year.

“I wish everyone involved with the tournament the best of luck.”

The tournament is a major event for the regional city of Murray Bridge with both Professionals and amateurs set to stay in the region over the ANZAC day period.

“This is the third year that the PGA tournament has been held in Murray Bridge which is growing in popularity and does provide a national profile of the region along with its economic benefits,” said Brenton Lewis, Mayor of The Rural City of Murray Bridge.

Play begins at 12pm on Wednesday the 25th of April, providing the golfing public the perfect afternoon of entertainment following the ANZAC Day observations.
