Matthew Millar fired an amazing 7-under 61 to lead the Burke Urban PGA Classic by five shots after the first round.

Millar kept a clean card with no bogeys recorded alongside his seven birdies at Murray Bridge Golf Club.

Millar took full advantage of the perfect conditions to put himself in a commanding position for the remainder of the pro-am and was only two shots shy of the course record 59 with plenty of chances to match the elusive sub-60 score.

Tied for second place at 2-under 66 is Glenelg Golf Club Assistant Professional Sam Hughes, Scott Laycock of Victoria and Jin Jeong of Korea.

Local amateur invitee Jack Thompson, a winner of the prestigious Riversdale Cup last month is lurking one shot further back at 1-under 67.
