Matthew Millar has won the Crowe Horwath Yamba Ladbrokes Legends Pro-Am for the first time with rounds of 67 and 64 for a total of 13-under par 131.
2017 is the 13th staging of the Yamba event and the Club has recently been recognised for their continued Pro-Am success by being awarded the 2016 Queensland PGA Regional Tournament of the Year.
This beautiful course demands accuracy off the tee with narrow fairways which are heavily tree lined along with small undulating greens which can present a challenge for players.
Canberra based Professional Matthew Millar stormed home with the low score of the tournament a final round of 8-under par 64 to claim victory by two shots over Queensland Professional and overnight leader Steven Jeffress.
The win makes it five on the circuit for Millar as his consistent form in the Ladbrokes PGA Pro-Am Series continues.
“Placement off the tee is so key on this course," said Millar.
“If you drive the ball well you can give yourself birdie opportunities which was my focus today.”
“I had nine birdies today which was incredible, I hit an amazing shot on the 16th hole from 159 metres to a foot to save par after pulling my drive left off the tee.
“That was the turning point in my round and kept things going, I finished from here with four birdies in row."
Millar’s scorecard consisted of birdies on 1st, 2nd, 4th, 5th and 9th holes, his only blemish was at the par 4, 7th hole where he took bogey but managed to turn in 4-under par 32.
Further birdies coming on the 13th, 14th, 17th and 18th holes for a 4-under par 32 secured his round of 64.
Gold Coast Professional Steven Jeffress was the overnight leader heading in to the final round shot a 4-under par 68 to finish outright second on 11-under total 133.
His round included six birdies coming at the 5th, 7th, 4th, 13th, 14th and 16th but also two bogeys on 12th and 17th holes halted his chances of winning.
“I just didn’t hit the ball as well today," said Jeffess.
“I found some trouble off the tee which you just cannot do on this course."
Professional Damien Jordan continued his good form finishing in third position with a 10-under par 134 total.
The next stop on Ladbrokes PGA Pro-Am Series is the Casino Pro-Am to be played Monday 9th October at the Casino Golf Club.
