A challenging day presented for the Professionals playing round one of Qantas Golf Club Fiji Teams Challenge at Natadola Bay Golf Course.
Canberra based Professional Matt Millar holds the lead after round one firing a solid 4-under par 68 to be one shot clear of Steven Jeffress a past winner at this course.
“The wind was really gusty today which made it difficult to judge your shots into the greens,” said Millar.
“I managed my distance control really well, hitting a lot of approach shots inside 12 feet which set up birdies."
Millar’s round included six birdies coming at the 1st, 8th, 9th, 10th, 17th and 18th holes and just the two bogeys on the 12th and 13th holes.
Steven Jeffress round of 3-under par 69 included four birdies coming at the 3rd, 5th, 14th and 17th holes just the lone bogey at the 12th hole.
“I played steady golf today my focus was just to keep the ball in play off the tee," said Jeffress.
“I kept the ball in the fairway all day my only bogey was the result of a three putt on the 12th hole."
The only other player to break par today was Brett Rankin who finished on 1-under par 71.
Play begins tomorrow morning at 9:30am for round two of the Qantas Fiji Teams Challenge.
