Tournament golf has made a successful return to the Kooralbyn Valley Golf Course after a 15 year hiatus.
After a total refurbishment the golf course reopened in June 2016, fully restored to its former glory much to the delight of the Ladbrokes Pro-Am Series players who took full advantage teeing it up in the two day Ramada Resort Kooralbyn Pro-Am.
Damien Jordan stood tall firing round of 70, 66 to claim victory on the challenging layout. His two round total of 8-under 136 enough to see him two shots clear of Michael Sim.
The Tweed Heads based player and winner of the 2016 Victorian PGA Championship on the ISPS HANDA PGA Tour of Australasia was on fire across the front-9 in the second round.
Jordan notched birdies on the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 7th, 8th and 9th holes to make the turn in 6-under the card before holding his composure on the run home for an even par closing 9 holes.
“I hit it close all day and putted well,” said Jordan after his victory.
“I started with a birdie and finished with a birdie, that’s always good”.
“It’s great to be back playing this course; I’ve had a great couple of days”.
West Australian Michael Sim, closed with a solid 67 to finish in second place. Sim fired an opening round of 71 giving him a 6-under par total of 138.
“My short game was really good today and kept me in it,” said Sim, who enjoyed the strategy demanded by the Kooralbyn layout.
“I hit good shots where I needed too. There are some holes on this course you just have hit the ball in the correct place.”
Marcus Cain finished in third place on a 5-under the card.
The next stop on the Ladbrokes PGA Pro-Am Series is the Murwillumbah Golf Club for the Murwillumbah Pro-Am. Play begins at 7.15am on the 5th October 2017.
