Michael Long has posted one of the Ladbrokes Legends Tour rounds of the year at the Royal Queensland Cup, posting a total of 6-under 66 to win by three shots at Royal Queensland Golf Club.
Among a field of 40 senior professionals including Peter Senior, Rodger Davis, Terry Price and Michael Harwood, Long recorded a bogey-free round to win the last Ladbrokes Legends Tour event of a seven-week stint in the Sunshine State.
“I flushed it all day which took the pressure off my short game and it is certainly the best I have played for a while,” Long said.
“I have a few decisions to make about my schedule at the end of the year. I have several opportunities on the ISPS HANDA PGA Tour of Australasia and the Ladbrokes Legends Tour, or even a trip back to the Champions Tour Qualifying School in the US so these types of wins are both confidence-building and certainly help the finances.”
For the second year in a row, Darren Rix finished runner-up at the Royal Queensland Cup, three shots behind Long. Rix also recorded six birdies for the round; however, three bogeys reduced his total to 69.
Defending champion Peter Senior carded a 1-under par round of 71 to tie for third place alongside David Fearns, Nigel Lane and Tod Power.
The Royal Queensland Cup concludes the mid-year QLD swing of the Ladbrokes Legends Tour with competition now moving to Sydney in early September for the Concord and Strathfield Legends Pro-Ams.
