Michael Harwood has won the Townsville Legends Pro-Am by one shot over Peter Senior, carding a round of 5-under 43 on the 12-hole layout.
Only 12 holes were open for play at Townsville Golf Club after the course was ravaged by floods earlier this year; however the 12 open were in perfect condition for the 32 senior Professionals taking part in the Ladbrokes Legends Tour event.
Playing to raise funds for flood relief in the region, Harwood recorded six birdies and one bogey for the round in a return to form for the Victorian.
Continuing his strong run of results, Peter Senior narrowly missed out on three wins in a row with a round of 4-under 44 on the par-48 layout.
Both players praised the condition of the course despite the challenges staff have faced in 2019.
“I heard that the course was under three metres of water earlier this year so for it to be playing in such good condition is a credit to the team here at Townsville Golf Club,” said Harwood.
“It’s clear they’ve put a great amount of effort into getting the course to where it is now and I can’t wait to come back and play here again when all of the holes are open,” added Senior.
“We hope that by bringing the Legends Tour up here to Townsville we’ve had a bit of a positive impact and have been able to raise important funds for the clubs affected.”
Bryan Wearne and Chris Hollingsworth finished tied for third place at 2-under the card while Richard Gilkey, David Fearns, Allan Cooper, John Martin and Gary Bruyeres recorded rounds of 1-under for fifth place.
