Sadly TI isn't at The Masters! My tips are usually limited to the local knowledge on the ISPS HANDA PGA Tour of Australasia however given for most golfers it is the day before Christmas I am going to give it a crack and hopefully tip a winner.
It may not be as hard as picking the Melbourne Cup winner but TI feels this year is especially difficult with so many of the world's best in great form.
Rory McIlroy, Justin Thomas, Paul Casey, Bubba Watson and Phil Mickelson have all won recently and Justin Rose, Jordan Spieth and a guy named Tiger Woods all seem to be peaking at the right time. So that is eight genuine chances before you consider guys like Dustin Johnson, Jason Day, dare I say it, Patrick Reed and the defending champ Sergio Garcia.
As a patriotic Aussie, TI also feels Marc Leishman, Adam Scott and Cameron Smith, arguably the form Aussie on tour this year, have genuine claims. Leish has played well at Augusta before, Scott is a past champion and seems to be quietly working into form.
So it just may be more difficult than picking the Melbourne Cup winner! TI will look for some value among the many chances.
TI is a real fan of this guy and although his past performances at Augusta have not been great, this guy's game seems to be built for Augusta! A great ball striker and appears to be a very solid putter, Thomas is surely near the top of his game for this assault on the green jacket.
Henrik Stenson - $34 Outright Winner with Ladbrokes
Perhaps the forgotten man of the world's best players with a current World Ranking of 14. TI has not forgotten the emphatic style in which Stenson won his first major at The Open Championship. Perhaps his record at Augusta isn't as strong as some but there is no doubt when he is at his best he is difficult to beat.
Louis Oosthuizen - $67 Outright Winner with Ladbrokes
(Yes I did need to look up how to spell it!) He could easily have had a couple of Green Jackets in the closet already. He has been close in the past and although his form this year isn't great, TI gets the feeling he is very comfortable strolling the fairways at Augusta National. Let's hope he is in contention if only to watch his sweet swing for a few days.
Jordan Spieth - $11 Outright Winner with Ladbrokes
If anyone is comfortable at Augusta surely it is this guy. He rounded out preparations last week with a nice finish in Houston and I'm sure he will be in the tournament for quite a while this week. TI thinks there may be a few demons from the last couple of years but is confident this young man has the mental fortitude to overcome them. As I'm not tipping an Aussie this week, I'm calling Spieth the adopted Aussie given he seems to play every Aussie Open these days.
Charley Hoffman - $101 Outright Winner with Ladbrokes
TI likes to throw one in from left field and this guy seems to be the man. However, upon closer examination, I think (because I haven't closely examined) you will find Hoffman’s record at Augusta is quite good. My memory (although not always perfect) is this guy has had many good rounds but hasn't put four together the same week. He can be a threat if he can keep the bad round off the scorecard.
TI believes Bubba and Justin Rose are real chances this week but has included Louis (no need to spell the last name again) and Charley for better value for the punters.
For the record I think young Cameron Smith will be the top Aussie and I wouldn't be surprised to see Hideki Matsuyama (looked that one up as well) and Alphabet (Aphibarnrat) also play well this week.
Plenty of value in the top-5 market over at ladbrokes.com.au.
Get to bed early golfers, Santa arrives in the morning!
