Highlights: 2007: Bob Shearer has been one of Australia’s most popular professional golfers for many years. He is semi-retired from full time playing and is now involved in golf course architecture.
Bob was inducted as a LIFE MEMBER OF THE PGA TOUR OF AUSTRALASIA in December 2006.
Shearer won the 1969 Australian Amateur Championship and turned pro in 1970. He won the PGA Tour of Australia four times: 1974, 1977, 1981, 1982. Represented his country in two World Cups.
He spent five years on the European Tour and then nine on the PGA Tour. A regular on The European Tour during much of the 1970s and 1980s with his best year coming in 1975 when he won twice at the Madrid Open and the Piccadilly Medal, on his way to finishing second on the Order of Merit behind Dale Hayes.
His career year was 1982 when he won the Australian Open and his sole PGA Tour event, the Tallahassee Open. He had 18 top-10 finishes in PGA Tour events. His best finish in a major championship was a T-7 at the 1978 British Open.
