Trainees battling to be the best in the West

PGA Trainees from around Australia are gathering at Wembley Golf Complex next week to contest the ADH Club Car WA Trainee Championship.

PGA Trainees from around Australia are gathering at Wembley Golf Complex next week to contest the ADH Club Car WA Trainee Championship.

Teeing off with a sponsors pro-am on Sunday 21st August, the title contest will get underway on Monday 22nd August with Trainees completing 72 holes across two days for a prize purse of $18,500.

A strong field has travelled to Perth with five of the top-10 Trainees in Australia set to battle it out.

Headlining the field will be West Australia’s own Brody Martin. The Number 1 Trainee in the country, Martin is also the current Rich River and Southern Trainee Champion.

He will be challenged by fellow West Australian John Martino and NSW Trainee Champion Robbie Hogan.

Also in the field are five female Trainees who will show that they can mix it with the boys.

Tournaments like the ADH Club Car WA Trainee Championship provide the next generation of PGA Professionals the opportunity to hone their playing skills under the pressure of a competition environment.

"This is a great opportunity for our Trainee Professionals to experience tournament golf and compete in a 72 hole Championship," said Kim Felton, State Manager, WA / SA Division of the PGA of Australia.

"I’m looking forward to seeing how they handle the pressure on a bigger stage and I hope that golf fans can make it out to see some rising stars in action."

The Wembley Golf Complex, where the WA PGA office is located, is a hive of activity with the new Ambrose Estate and 300 Acres Bar and Restaurant opening last week in time for the Trainee Championship.

In an exciting new addition to this year’s Championship, Trainees will also have the opportunity to compete in the Trewin Title Transfers WA Trainee Shootout.

Taking place after the Sunday pro-am, 15 Trainees will compete in a nearest the pin challenge on the par-3 9th hole on the Tuart Course for a bonus $1,000.

The new balcony of the Ambrose Estate will provide the perfect vantage point to take in the shootout action.

The ADH Club Car WA Trainee Championship will be played on both the Old and Tuart courses at Wembley Complex with Trainee’s completing 36 holes on each of Monday and Tuesday.
