Pisani fires around home course

Indooroopilly Golf Club Trainee Professional Ben Pisani has made the most of his home course advantage to take the lead following the opening round of the 2017 Tony Hollands Funerals QLD PGA Trainee Championship.

Indooroopilly Golf Club Trainee Professional Ben Pisani has made the most of his home course advantage to take the lead following the opening round of the 2017 Tony Hollands Funerals QLD PGA Trainee Championship.

""Making the most of the perfect scoring conditions, Pisani fired a 5-under par 67 around the Captains Course to hold a one shot lead over defending champion Robbie Hogan.

Playing your home course is not always the advantage you expect it to be, though Pisani was able to put that pressure aside throughout today’s opening round.

“Yeah, I know there is an expectation to do well this week, but given my run of form over recent months, it hasn’t really entered my mind,” said Pisani when asked about the pressures.

“My confidence is at an all time high and the work that I have been doing away from the course is certainly paying dividends.

“I am really looking forward to the next three rounds and given the quality of the field playing this week, I really can’t afford to be complacent and take my foot off the accelerator.”

Hogan will no doubt be ruing his final six holes, but is pleased to find himself in the position that he is in following his opening round.

“It was a little disappointing to finish off the round the way that I did after being seven under through my first 12 holes, though all in all I am happy with the way I played,” said Hogan.

“It’s great to return to Indooroopilly, the course is once again in great shape and I really enjoy the Queensland weather this time of year.

“I did some good work over the phone with my coach John Lewis yesterday, so with a little hard work this afternoon, hopefully it will give me the confidence to finish off my rounds.”
