Martin holds form to take the lead at Rich River

Cooler conditions awaited players for the second round of the 29th Coca Cola Rich River Trainee Classic at the Rich River Golf Resort this morning.

Cooler conditions awaited players for the second round of the 29th Coca Cola Rich River Trainee Classic at the Rich River Golf Resort this morning.

""With winds increasing throughout the day, the morning field had the upper hand which saw Brody Martin (WA) take hold of the opportunity to close the gap on overnight leader, Adam Porker.

Martin carded one eagle, four birdies, and three bogeys to finish the day 3-under 69.

Porker, who teed off in the afternoon field, struggled to find the form he had produced in the previous round.

Starting with a string of bogeys on the first four holes Porker had to compose himself to ensure he didn’t lose control of his game.

Porker refocused and finish with a respectable 2-over 74 to move down to second place on the leaderboard and 3-under overall for the tournament.

Second year Trainee Professional Molly Lavercombe (NSW) was the only female who made the 59 player cut after 36-holes.

Her later position in the afternoon field saw her bear the brunt of the windy conditions. Lavercombe battled through what she referred to as " the most mentally tough round I have ever played" to finish with a score of 4-over 66.

Clubhouse leader Brody Martin will have his work cut out for him if he is to maintain his lead over the next two days, with both seasoned and first year Trainee Professionals all still with their eye firmly on the prize and well within striking distance.

The third round, commonly referred to as moving day, is set to present calmer winds. Trainees will have to contend with hotter conditions anticipated as they battle it out to ensure they are still in contention moving in to the final day.
