First round leader Deyen Lawson has moved out to a six shot lead after an impressive second round score of 7-under 65 to lead with a combined score of 11-under at the BMG QLD PGA Trainee Championship

In near perfect weather conditions Lawson finished the front nine holes in 4-under opening with a birdie and then an eagle on the 3rd followed by another birdie on the 6th. The only blemish on his scorecard appeared when he bogeyed the par 4 11th.

"The conditions were great with hardly any wind so I wanted to make the most with the opportunity," said Lawson.

"I just tried to remain patient throughout the round and I believe this helped me to scramble well and make the important putts."

The nearest competitor sitting six shots behind Lawson is NSW Trainee Aaron Glasson who finished with a 4-under 68, which was helped by a hole in one on the picturesque 2nd hole. Hitting a 7 iron into the 159m par 3, Glasson’s ball bounced once before dropping into the hole.

"I thought I may have made an error in my club selection as it bounced once on the green and disappeared," said the jubilant Glasson.

"After first thinking it had run past I got excited by the reaction of the spectators near the green who were cheering."

Other players who moved into contention today were Taylor Cooper and Sunshine Coast Trainee Brad McLellan who both finished their rounds under par. Dane McArdle who was one shot behind Lawson after the first round is also amongst the leaders after an even par round of 72.

Round three will commence at 7.00am tomorrow with the lead group teeing off at 9.50am and will see many players do their best to move to the top of the leaderboard and put themselves in contention for this year’s title.
