Lawson Builds on Impressive Lead

Backing up his second round score with another 3 under par 69 sees Deyen Lawson continue to build on his lead at the 2014 Bundaberg Motor Group QLD PGA Trainee Championship.

Backing up his second round score with another 3 under par 69 sees Deyen Lawson continue to build on his lead at the 2014 Bundaberg Motor Group QLD PGA Trainee Championship.

Now with a 10 shot lead over his nearest professional rivals Taylor Cooper and Jamie Hook, Lawson is in a dominant position heading into the final round.

Opening with a birdie on his first hole Lawson continued on with a bogey free front nine and was confident of continuing the scoring opportunities. Birdies again on the 10th, Par 6 12th and also the 13th only two late bogeys were the only blemish on his scorecard.

Wind speeds dropped considerably from the first two rounds and had all players looking to make the most of the favourable conditions. Caboolture based Trainee Rick Coleman and 2013 QLD Trainee of the Year had the best score of the event with a four under par score 68. Sitting currently in tied 8th position Coleman is more than aware that a lot needs to happen if he were to see himself get to the top of the leaderboard.

"I really enjoyed the round today not having to contend with any wind. Early on I could feel that I could actually try and go for scoring opportunities rather than play defensively to minimise my mistakes as I have been the last two rounds" said Coleman. "A win for me will be a slim chance with Deyen playing so well but I’ll be looking to move my way up the leader board as far as I can."

Lawson will be looking to remain consistent with his scoring and defend and perhaps his lead on the field.

"Obviously every player wants to score low every round they play, but this week especially has been one where I seem to be able to achieve this which is a great result" said Lawson. "Heading into the final round as leader is always a good feeling but I know I have some really good players capable of scoring well looking to finish strong tomorrow."

The final round will commence at 7:30 tomorrow with the lead group teeing off at 10:10am.
