Cooper Gets Moving at National Futures Championship


It was moving day at Ballarat Golf Club today, resulting in a new leader of the 2014 PGA National Futures Championship at the conclusion of the 3rd round.  Following the cut, 52 players are now battling for the title and looking to position themselves for a strong finish tomorrow.

It was moving day at Ballarat Golf Club today, resulting in a new leader of the 2014 PGA National Futures Championship at the conclusion of the 3rd round.  Following the cut, 52 players are now battling for the title and looking to position themselves for a strong finish tomorrow.Taylor Cooper, from Manly Golf Club in NSW shot the best round of the day, with his 2-under par score of 70 taking him to a three shot lead with 18 holes to play.
 
Trailing Cooper at even-par is Alex Pitty following a 1-over 73 and 36-hole leader Sean Roach, who now sits at 1-over following a 75 in the challenging 3rd round conditions.
 
Cooper was reflective after his third round.
 
"All the guys in my group played well, so I’m pretty happy to find myself in the lead."
 
"The weather looks to be even better tomorrow, so I have no doubt the final round is going to be a close one."
 
The women in the field also climbed their way up the leaderboard to keep in touch with the leaders.
 
Carly Beck from Wakehurst Golf Club in NSW joined Elissa-Jayne Orr, from Eastwood Golf Club in Victoria in the top ten, after both finishing on 8-over.
 
Making the biggest move of the day was Michael Smyth, from Royal Sydney Golf Club, who came from mid-field to find himself outright fifth after carding a 1-under 71 to leave him 6-over for the tournament.
 
Plenty of birdies are forecasted tomorrow with sunny skies and less wind expected to arrive for the final round of the 2014 National Futures Championship.
 
With $9900 first place prize money up for grabs and a total purse of $55,000 on the line, the PGA Trainees will be looking to make a move up the leader-board in the final round.
 
In addition, the winner walks away with an invitation into the prestigious Australian PGA Championship, playing alongside the likes of Adam Scott and John Senden.  The public are invited to watch the final round of the Championship at Ballarat Golf Club, with the leaders scheduled to tee-off at 9:50am.
