Caboolture welcomes Trainees for Pampling Plate

Caboolture Golf Club, home to the Pampling family, is ready to host the 2015 Queensland Trainee Match Play Championship more affectionately known as the Pampling Plate.

Caboolture Golf Club, home to the Pampling family, is ready to host the 2015 Queensland Trainee Match Play Championship more affectionately known as the Pampling Plate.

With qualifying rounds beginning today, Queensland Trainees
converged on Caboolture Golf Club to compete in one of the major tournaments on
the schedule for the one of the State’s most sought after titles.

This is the third consecutive year the Pampling Plate will be
hosted by the club and its members which is made more poignant with recent
Web.com Tour winner and tournament namesake Rod Pampling having strong ties to Caboolture.

"To have this event here is fantastic, the club members really get
behind it to make sure it is a standout event each year," said Trent
Scaysbrook, Head PGA Professional at Caboolture Golf Club.

"Rod Pampling is revered at the Club so any time we can be seen to
assist him or his event which he has supported since 2005, is a privilege."

Nearly 60 PGA Trainees contested the 36 hole qualifier today in
the hope to be one of the Top-32 competitors to progress to the match play
portion of the Pampling Plate.

Hoping to again hold the trophy is defending champion Paul
Griffiths from Surfers Paradise Golf Club.

"It was unbelievable to win this coveted event in my first year as
a Trainee and I can only hope to give myself every opportunity to win again this
year," said Griffiths.

"I’ve been pleased with my results so far this year but I’m always
looking to improve and be on top of the leaderboard."

Other players to watch include Caboolture based Trainee Rick
Coleman who has already posted three wins this year and has intimate knowledge
of the course, first year Trainee Kris O’Sullivan who has also won this year
and continually finished near the top of the leaderboard.

A first year Trainee has won the title the last three years.

The first matches will commence tomorrow from 6.45am and will be
played over the following three days culminating in a 36 hole final on the
Thursday.

Spectators are welcome at the Caboolture Golf Club to see the next
generation of PGA Professionals during the week where we will crown a new
Pampling Plate Champion on Thursday 4th June.
