"JacobConditions were more favourable for players in the first day of
match play after windy conditions affected the qualifying rounds on Monday.

After his opponent Josh Ryan got off to a hot starting winning the
first three holes, leading qualifier Jacob Boyce from Caloundra managed to
overcome his fellow second year Trainee to claim the win.

Boyce went on to dominate his second round match winning 5&4 and
will take a lot of confidence into his next matches.

"It’s been great to get the two wins today and I’m extremely happy
with my game right now," said Boyce.

"This course is really suited for match play and really allows you
to be more aggressive to get the opportunities to win a hole."

2014 winner Paul Griffiths took out his first match against first
year trainee Kylie Close in a close contest but was unable to take out his
second round match against Nick Rogers after the match went to the 20th
hole.

Host Trainee Kris O’Sullivan had back-to-back wins and credited
his long game in allowing him to gain an edge on his competitors.

"Being able to hit my driver a bit further allows me to find some
better angles into some of the greens and find a couple of short cuts around my
home course," said O’Sullivan.

"It pays to know where you can hit to find some better
opportunities on a lot of the holes."

In another close contest Sam Price from Sanctuary Cove scrambled
to hold out Jacob Tonkin after their match went to the 19th hole.

The final eight competitors will now compete in the next two
rounds with the finalists decided after Wednesday’s play.
