The PGA of Australia mourns the passing of Don “Bronco” Johnson, one of the most influential administrators in the history of the Association. Don was 84 years of age.

""Originally holding the position of Secretary of the NSW Section, Johnson was instrumental in the amalgamation of the PGA State sections into the Australian PGA as we know it today. His happy demeanour, down-to-earth approach and thoroughness made him a popular administrator who would have a lasting influence on the Association.

Johnson held the role of Secretary Treasurer of the Australian PGA for six years from 1981 to 1987 and with the help of Peter Thomson and Dick Heazlewood was able to quash interstate jealousies and convince all states to unanimously approve his rationalisation plan.

His many achievements during his time included the evolution of the PGA Academy to deliver the Associations education programs, the introduction of lady members to the association and the relocation of the National Office to Riverside Oaks.

Johnson’s contribution was recognised in the publication “The PGA of Australia, the First 100 Years” being named as one of the 25 most influential people in Australian Professional Golf.

Our condolences go to the Johnson family.
