The PGA team of Brett Rumford, Jason Scrivener, Michael Long, Steve Dartnall, Daniel Fox, Rick Kulacz, Jarryd Felton and Brody Martin took victory in the reinvigorated rivalry of the WA State Team Challenge.

""In the first instalment of the Challenge since 2010 after first being played in 1984, fans at Melville glades were treated to tight morning matches with some great golf being played by both sides for two points each in a matchplay format.

Min Woo Lee beat Brett Rumford convincingly to get the amateurs an early lead but in the end it was Michael Long who fought hard from three down through 11 holes to split his match and get the extra half point which saw the PGA across the line for their first win since 2009.

“It was an awesome day with some seriously good golf.  I love the event and what it represents and can’t wait to be back next year to try and go back to back with the lads.” WA based professional Jason Scrivener said.

The contest between pros and amateurs, previously a highlight on the local golfing calendar, has been brought back after a seven-year hiatus and will form a central part of the State Team’s preparations for May’s Interstate Series.

WA will host both the men’s and women’s Interstate Series tournaments – with the men at Melville Glades from May 9-12.
