A suspension in play and having to return to the course early this morning to complete their first round was not enough to stop Michael Wright and Steven Jeffress from claiming the inaugural Maroochy River Pro-Am.

Wright and Jeffress finished at 8-under, two shots clear of Troy Cox, who shot the round of the tournament today, a 7-under 65. 

Both Jeffress and Wright along with the other 32 Professionals that played yesterday afternoon, had to return to the course at 6:00am this morning to finish their rounds, with Wright holding a two shot lead after a 66.

Wright would return a 70 in today’s second round, only to be joined shortly after by Jeffress with consecutive 68’s.

It has been a lean year for Wright, with his best finish on the Choice Hotels PGA Pro-Am Series Sunshine Swing coming at the Morobe Open back in April where he finished tied 4th.

"Although it hasn’t been one of best years on tour, my form has really been on the improve over the past two weeks culminating into a victory here today," said Wright.

"There is no doubt my top-10 finish at last week’s Queensland Open has helped me with my confidence, I’m feeling more comfortable and settled with my game on course.

"Hopefully I can continue to build on this momentum heading into the remainder of the PGA Tour of Australasian season."

2015 has been slightly different for Jeffress though, and after winning for the fourth time this year, he finds himself moving into second place in the race for the Order of Merit title.

"The form has been good of late and it’s great to have continued it on here at Maroochy River," said Jeffress.

"This course has been built to hold tournament golf, and it wouldn’t surprise me if this tournament continues to grow into some big in the coming years. I feel privileged to have won the inaugural event and I look forward to returning in 12 month time to defend my title."

For many of the competing professionals, it was the very first time they had seen the Maroochy River layout, with the course only officially opening in June this year. Although the course is still very young, the Professionals could only praise the Graham Marsh designed course, with many of them looking forward to returning for the 2016 pro-am.

The Sunshine Swing will now head south, with the Riverlakes Pro-Am being played next Wednesday. More than 50 professionals will compete for the $11,000 in prizemoney, before the Sunshine Swing returns to the Redland Bay Golf Club for the first time since 2001.
