A flawless day at Rockhampton Golf Club greeted players for the second round of the 2017 Ian Weigh Toyota Rockhampton Pro-Am. Ladbrokes PGA Pro-Am Series Sunshine Swing Professional Peter Martin has shot to the equal lead with Aaron Wilkin after another day of consistent play.

Martin was one of a trio of players one shot off the pace after yesterday’s opening round. He had shot a 5-under par 67 and backed up today with a three under par 67 for a total of 136.

65 Professionals and amateurs experienced a cool clear morning for their early start. Martin was in the second group to tee off, it took a little time for him to warm up he still managed to shoot a three under par 69.

“It was really cold this morning," said Martin, “I felt I had a slow start but managed to gain momentum midway through my first nine holes turning one under par, 35 followed by birdies on the 379m par 4, 10^th hole and 296m par 4, 12^th hole to finish his back nine two under par, 34.

“My ball striking has been really consistent over the last two days which has given me a lot of birdie opportunities. I’ve only made the one bogey over the 36 holes but unfortunately I haven’t putted as well as I would have liked. The greens are rolling really well so hopefully tomorrow I can turn things around with the putter and capitalise on my consistent ball striking."

Overnight leader Aaron Wilkin has continued his good form and remains at the top of the leaderboard after shooting a 2-under par 70 today for a total of eight under par 136 at the halfway mark. Wilkin’s round started with a birdie on his opening hole 443m par 5 followed by a bogey at the difficult par 3, 2^nd hole, Wilkin recovered to make birdie at the short par 4, 8^th hole to turn one under par. Wilkin made birdies on the 10^th and 16^th holes with his only blemish on the par 3 11^th hole where he took a bogey.

“I played steady golf today but just didn’t give myself enough opportunities to make birdies, my short game was really solid and made a few great up and downs to save par which kept me going," said Wilkin.

“There are a lot birdie chances on this course so tomorrow my plan is to play a little more aggressively and try and get a few more birdies on the card."

The story of the day come from Andrew Campbell who had a hole-in-one on a par 4. Andrew took a driver off the tee on the 287m par 4 8^th hole, carried the corner, landed on the green and the ball disappeared into the hole. Andrew finished three under par for the day and was speechless at what he had achieved. “I couldn’t believe it when the ball went in the hole I’m still having trouble getting my head around it," said Campbell.

The next best placed Professionals are local Yeppoon Professional Adam Blyth and Victorian James Marchesani both tied on seven under par 137 total.
