Spargo leads the way at Jeep

South Australian professional Paul Spargo has taken control of the Jeep Pro-Am following today’s opening round, taking a three shot lead into tomorrow’s second round.

Spargo fired eight birdies in his round of six under par 66, with his nearest rival Jared Pender signing for a three under par 69. Four professionals find themselves a further shot back in a tie for third including Marcus Cain, who fired an incredible 11 under par 60 last week to claim the Howeston
Pro Am.

Spargo has been a prolific winner on the Queensland Sunshine Tour, and there is no doubt he would love to add the Jeep Pro Am to his Capricorn Classic and PNG Open wins. "This is the biggest Pro-Am we play all year and an event that every professional would love win," said Spargo following his round.

"You can never get too far ahead of yourself in this game and as everyone knows, you can’t win a four round tournament in the opening round. It is great to find myself in the lead and hopefully I can continue my fine form from today’s round over the next three days to put myself in a position to win
come Saturday afternoon."

Although playing through the pain of a hand injury, current Queensland Sunshine Tour Order of Merit leader Brett Rankin hasn’t done any harm to his chances of claiming his first Order of Merit title, firing a two under par 70, to sit in a tie for third.

Round 2 of the Jeep Pro Am will once again get underway at 12:00pm at the Glades Golf Club. Spectators are welcome to attend and see the next generation of Australian Professional Golfers compete in Australia’s richest Pro-Am.
