Rankin goes back-to-back in Ladbrokes PGA Pro-Am Series

Queenslander Brett Rankin has made it back to back victories taking out the 33rd annual Middlemount South Pro-Am in his fourth visit to the Onsite Rental Group Mining Towns Series.

Queenslander Brett Rankin has made it back to back victories taking out the 33rd annual Middlemount South Pro-Am in his fourth visit to the Onsite Rental Group Mining Towns Series.

""Firing rounds of 67 and 65 for a total of 12–under 132, Rankin won by a stroke from fellow Queenslander and defending champion Nick Russell, who bogeyed his last hole to finish 6-under 66 in the final round.

Rankin’s 7-under 65 included birdies on the 2nd and 9th holes for a 2-under par front-9, a 5-under par back-9, including a string of birdies on the 10th, 11th and 12th holes secured Rankin his victory.

“I like the layout of the course and I feel really comfortable with my game at the moment,” Rankin said.

“I hit the ball well from tee to green both days and gave myself plenty of opportunities to make birdies.  I thought 12-under par would win the Pro-Am, so I knew I had to play well and shoot a low score today to win the event.

“I am looking forward to the final event on the weekend, it would be fantastic to have another good finish just to cap off a solid couple of weeks.”

Nick Russell enjoyed his best performance to date in this year’s Onsite Rental Group Mining Towns Series carding seven birdies; his only blemish was a bogey on the 18th hole.

“I hit my drive a little right off the tee and it finished behind a tree which left me without a shot to the green,” Russell said.

“I haven’t been playing all that well up to this point, so I am happy with my second place here, I had fond memories of this course after winning here last year, so I really draw on that for motivation today.”

New South Welshman Dylan Stollery held the overnight lead on 10-under par by five shots after shooting the lowest round of the Onsite Rental Group Mining Towns Series so far.

Stollery couldn’t quite hold his nerve today with the group of accomplished Professionals within striking distance, he finished 3-over par for today’s round.

“It was a great experience to be in contention and I am looking forward to the final event in this year’s series,” Stollery said.

After eight rounds of the Onsite Rental Group Mining Towns Series Brett Rankin has burst into the lead and is in a commanding position on 34–under par. Rankin holds a three shot lead over Steven Jeffress on 31-under par in second position. Brad Burns continues to play consistent golf, he is placed in third position sitting 26-under par.

The final stop in the Onsite Rental Group Mining Towns Series is the Dysart Golf Club for the staging of the 39th Onsite Rental Group Dysart Pro-Am, play begins on Saturday morning at 7:00am, with the leading group including Rankin and Jeffress teeing off at 12.00pm.
