Rankin claims Yamba Pro-Am

After starting the final round seven shots behind, Brett Rankin fired an unofficial course record 64 in yesterday’s second round to claim back-to-back wins at the Crowe Horwath Yamba Pro-Am.

After starting the final round seven shots behind, Brett Rankin fired an unofficial course record 64 in yesterday’s second round to claim back-to-back wins at the Crowe Horwath Yamba Pro-Am.

Rankin finished one shot ahead of overnight leader Victorian Luke Hickman on 8-under.

Hickman will no doubt lament the missed opportunity for victory at Yamba, after stumbling to a triple bogey on the par 4 16th hole late in his round.

This is Rankin’s third win in a row after claiming the Casino and Murwillumbah Pro-Am last week.

"I have always enjoyed my time in the Northern Rivers, but at the start of the week I never expected to win three consecutive tournaments," said Rankin.

"I knew at the start of the day that I would need to get off to a hot start and shoot a low number, but even if I did, the leaders would need to make a few mistakes coming in if I was to have any chance."

"Fortunately for me that’s exactly what happened and although I couldn’t be happier, I do feel for Luke who was gunning for his first win on the Sunshine Swing."

Professionals will now make their way further south, with the Grafton Pro-Am teeing of on Monday and the tournaments first appearance on the Sunshine Swing after previously being played on the New South Wales Swing.

Rankin will also be looking to make a little history on Monday at Grafton, as he aims to emulate Sam Brazel’s record and win four consecutive pro-ams on the Sunshine Swing.
