The duo fired 4-under 67 to win the event, in its 37th staging, by one stroke over fellow Queenslander, Stephen Woodhead.

Dane McArdle and last year’s champion Chris Wood finished a further shot back to share fourth place.

"It’s always a pleasure returning to Howeston, Lyn and Bill Weston are wonderful people and do an outstanding job alongside their families to make this day happen," said Burns.

"As much as I would like to hang around this evening, unfortunately I will be spending the next six hours in a car, as I am heading to play the South West Rocks Pro-Am tomorrow."

43 Professionals teed it up looking to add their name to a piece of the Howeston history that includes past champions such as Ossie Moore, Terry Price and Peter McWhinney.

Professionals on the Sunshine Swing will now enjoy a two month break with the next event being the Bartons/BMD Wynnum Pro-Am in December.

A number of Professionals will now embark on either the ISPS HANDA PGA Tour of Australasia while others will tackle the various international qualifying schools taking place over the next few months.
