It’s on for young and old as the Ladbrokes PGA Pro-Am Series, Legends Tour and ALPG Tour converge to the fairways of Paradise Palms this weekend, as the Mercedes-Benz Cairns Classic tees off on Saturday.

""This will be the second time the event has been staged in the form of a Pro-Am, with the Ladbrokes PGA Pro-Am Series Sunshine Swing and the Ladbrokes PGA Legends Tour are joined by their female counterparts from ALPG Tour all vying for the coveted Cairns Classic.

Last year’s Ladbrokes PGA Pro-Am Series Order of Merit winner Damien Jordan returns to the Cairns Classic, looking to add the prestigious title to his growing list of professional victories.

“I believe the course is once again in fantastic condition ahead of this year’s Cairns Classic, so I am not only looking forward to the course, but also the warmer weather Cairns will provide this time of year,” said Jordan.

“I’m feeling good about my game after finishing equal 3rd in the WA PGA Championship in Kalgoorlie, and looking forward to the event in Cairns.”

The field is stacked with quality professionals including Steven Jeffress, Damien Jordan and Peter Wilson from the PGA Pro-Am Series Sunshine Swing, while 1990 US PGA Champion Wayne Grady will spearhead the PGA Legends along with Glen Joyner and Tim Elliott who currently leads the Ladbrokes PGA Legends Tour Order of Merit.

The ALPG will not want to be outdone by their male rivals, with the likes of Ali Orchard and Amy Walsh both looking forward to the challenges Paradise Palms will present them with over the two days.

With the Cairns Classic offering the Tropical North Queensland local community and up close and personal experience with the Professional golfers, the tournament is seen as a great promotion for the game of golf.

Golf will be atop of all sporting headlines in the Cairns region over the next week which will hopefully inspire the next generation of golfing superstars.
