Professionals prepare for final showdown

The 2013/14 QLD Sunshine Tour Order of Merit will come to a close

"MarcusLeading by just one stroke heading into today’s third round, Cain
made plenty of early statements to his rivals making birdies on the 3rd,
4th, 5th and 7th holes to get to 11 under par for the tournament
through nine holes. He continued the solid form he has shown over recent
months throughout the back nine, making birdie on the 10th, though
eight straight pars to finish would be good enough for a three shot lead
over Blake McGrory heading into tomorrow’s final round.

McGrory certainly held his own today, playing alongside Cain, though a
couple of bogies early on the back nine somewhat halted his
progress."Marcus and I had a great battle over the opening nine, really
dragging each other along making birdie for birdie," said McGrory.

"Although I didn’t finish my round the way I would have liked, it was
nice to hole a four metre par putt on the last, just to keep the
momentum going into the final round. It will be tough to catch Marcus
tomorrow with the form that he has shown recently, but as long as I stay
patient and keep executing quality shots, I know I will give myself a
chance going into the final few holes tomorrow."

Sam Eaves finds himself in outright third, after firing a tournament
low round today, an eight under par 64. Eaves’ round included nine
birdies and one bogey which came at the par 4 15th, but more importantly
his round has put him right into contention to claim the biggest win of
his young professional career.

A win for Cain tomorrow at the Jeep Pro Am would all but seal the
Queensland Sunshine Tour Order of Merit title, while McGrory will be
looking to try and claim the Rookie of the Year and Order of Merit
double. McGrory currently sits some $17,000 behind current Rookie of the
Year award leader Tim Hart, but with the winner’s cheque from this
week’s Jeep Pro Am close to $36,000, it is still either player’s title
to win.

The final round will get underway tomorrow morning at 11:00am, with
the lead group consisting of Cain and McGrory teeing off the first tee.
Spectators are welcome and encouraged to come and see some Australia’s
leading golf professionals tackle the Glades Golf course, with many
returning in a couple of months time to compete at the Australian PGA
Championship at the RACV Royal Pines Resort.
