Something special has happened in tournament golf today at the MDP Painting Joondalup Pro-Am that is at long odds to happen again.

""Partners off the golf course Braden Becker and Hayley Bettencourt have both shot 1-under par 71 to share the first place cheque and prize money.

The game of golf brought the two together years ago and continues to play a huge part of their life with both working together at Mandurah Country Club, Hayley in golf operations and Braden in the pro shop teaching.

Starting today on the par-3 7th Hayley got off to a flyer holing a four iron for the sixth hole-in-one of her short career, from there, as she described “I just played solid golf ” to post a pretty good round of 71.

Little did she know just minutes before submitting her card, boyfriend Braden had posted the same score around the superb Robert Trent Jones layout, neither knowing this score would hold up to take out the title.

Bettencourt was a late call up due to Terry Pilkadaris getting a late start in the European Tour yesterday afternoon.

“I’m so grateful for the opportunities I’ve had not just here but throughout the WA series to play with guys. I have loved playing with them and learning so much but most of all I have just loved the challenge of trying to beat them,” said Bettencourt.

Becker, who has experienced Tour life since completing his PGA Traineeship in 2015 has shown mixed results throughout the series but knows his game isn’t far away.

“I lost my tour card this year but I’m driven and working hard to get back out there for the big events over Summer. These events are great to test your game over different courses that will only help for the end of the year,” Becker said.

The split decision was even more fitting coming just one day after International Women’s Golf Day.

From here the Ladbrokes PGA Pro-Am Series WA swing now moves to the Hahn Super Dry Gosnells Pro-Am on Friday, followed by the last two events up in the Northwest.
