Andrew
Martin has captured the 2016 Mitchell and Brown Spalding Park Open in dramatic
fashion, holding off a flurry of fast finishers including Ash Hall who he
defeated in sudden death on the first playoff hole.

Starting
the final round four shots in front, Martin stumbled early in very difficult
conditions and when his lead had shrunk to a single shot on the back nine, it
was game on for the Victorians in the final group.

Martin
carded a final round 3-over 75 against a 1-under par 71 from Hall who needed to
get up and down on the final hole to force a playoff.

"Andy
played great all week and knew he would hang in there which he did," said Hall.

Playing
the 18^th in sudden death, Hall hit a perfect drive but after a poor
approach left him over the back of the green, it was advantage Martin who
played conservatively leaving himself 20-ft for birdie.

When
Hall missed his six-foot par putt, Martin had secured his biggest win of the
year.

"I
am pretty excited to win here," said Martin.

"I
have come close a few times before and not been able to close it out so it’s a
huge relief to get the job done," added the 31-year-old from Bendigo.

Defending
champion Mitchell A Brown carded a third consecutive round of 2-under 70 to
finish at 6-under the card in outright third place.

Michael
Long posted a final round of 3-under 69 to move up  into outright fourth and finished the low
West Australian for the tournament.   

The
next stop on the WA/SA Subaru Pro-Am Series is in Port Hedland for the BHP
Pro-Am starting on Friday.
