Legacy Celebrity Pro-Am launched for good cause

For the first time, Legacy Australia will play their long running charity golf day as an official pro-am on the Ladbrokes Pro-Am Series.

For the first time, Legacy Australia will play their long running charity golf day as an official pro-am on the Ladbrokes Pro-Am Series.

""Legacy, a charity that supports families affected by wars, has operated a charity golf day for the past 85 years with Huntingdale Golf Club the proud host.

In 2018, the tradition will continue at Huntingdale when they hold the inaugural Legacy Celebrity Pro-Am to be played on Friday 18 May.

“What a great cause Legacy is, supporting our war widows and those people that have come back from the front line,” said Peter Bellion, President of Huntingdale Golf Club.

The PGA of Australia is proud to support this worthy charity and be involved with an event with such a long and proud history.

“An event that has been running for 85 years, I can’t think of a longer relationship between a charity and a club,” said Nick Dastey, VIC, TAS, SA Manager, PGA of Australia.

“We hope that we can complement the day, our Professionals will be right behind the event.”

“Most importantly we hope we can help in raising some significant funds for such a great cause.”

Legacy receives little to no Government support and survives via donations from the public, bequeaths and the selling of Legacy badges during Legacy week in September. They raise over AU$5million each year.

“Our work means a child can get an education and a fair go, a widow is not disadvantaged and alone, and a family is not torn apart by the effects of Post-Traumatic Stress,” said Graeme Plumridge, President of Melbourne Legacy.

“Today, Legacy cares for 65,000 families nationally including children, people with a disability and widows.  There is also a growing demand for support for young families of veterans who have served post -1991 who are suffering from Post-Traumatic Stress.”

Lending their support as the first celebrity ambassadors are former SEN host Mark Allen and former St Kilda Captain and Richmond coach Danny Frawley.

“I was a member here for 30 years and saw first-hand the work that Legacy does, Danny and I are really looking forward to playing in the day,” said Allen.

While Frawley is already on the recruiting hunt for other celebrities to be involved, “Jason Dunstall is a member here and we’ll probably get him to come along. It’s great to have Jonathon Brown and Sam Pang also committed to the event.”

The Legacy Celebrity Pro-Am already has some excellent corporate support with BMW South Yarra, Easy Golf Worldwide, TaylorMade and Sweet Spot Club Hire all on board.

“We are proud to have the opportunity to be associated with this event at a local level,” said Gary Watson, Dealer Principal of South Yarra BMW.

“It’s a cause that’s of great interest to me coming from a military family; my son, my father, two uncles and my grandfather all served so we’re delighted to be a part of this event, making it a good day and hopefully giving away a new BMW.”
