Kiwis take WA by storm

New Zealand’s Lachlan McDonald has continued his good run of form on the PGA Pro-Am circuit in Western Australia.

New Zealand’s Lachlan McDonald has continued his good run of form on the PGA Pro-Am circuit in Western Australia.

The rookie Kiwi nailed back-to-back victories this week; securing the MPD Painting and Wall Coverings Joondalup Pro-Am at Joondalup Country Club carding 7-under 65 to win by four shots over fellow countryman, Fraser Wilkin.

He followed up with a 10-under 63 at the Proweld Constructions Pro-Am at Hillview Public Golf Course. His round included 11 birdies on his way to a three shot victory over Steven Jones. Tournament host Michael Long, also from New Zealand, finished 5-under for outright fourth.

Mcdonald went through Q-School last year but has struggled with form this season, which included missing the cut at last week’s WA Open, but the young Pro remains positive about his performance this week.

"I’ve found some form and I’ve been feeling relaxed out there this week. I haven’t had any expectations playing on these new courses, which I haven’t seen before," McDonald said.

"The courses out here are sensational; so it’s a great week to play well and enjoy the courses."

Unfortunately, McDonald couldn’t make it three in a row. A 1-over 73 at the West Coast Wines Ronald McDonald House Pro-Am at Hartfield Country Club was only good enough for a T29 finish. Ben Clementson was the eventual winner by five shots over Rick Kulacz..

The PGA Tour of Australasia will make its way to Western Australia next week for the TX Civil & Logistics WA PGA Championship at Kalgoorlie Golf Club.
