Tour rookie Andrew Kirkman yesterday claimed his first career win as a professional by taking out the weather interrupted Brightside Cover Castle Hill Pro-Am in Sydney.

""Tuesday’s final round was eventually cancelled following several intense thunder storms which swept through the north western region of Sydney’s hills district.

The result meant that round one scores stood, handing Kirkman a dramatic victory following his superb opening round of five-under-par 67.

‘I would have loved to win it fair and square today but It’s a great feeling nonetheless" said Kirkman who hails from Port Macquarie on the NSW Mid North Coast.

Kirkman was the last man in the field on Monday as first reserve and took full advantage of the fortunate break.

"I have been excited to play since I got through at qualifying school and to win this event is a great feeling".

Round two was well underway before the heavens opened, with the final round cancelled at 5:23pm local time.

Castle Hill have had a unfortunate run of luck when hosting major events in recent years, none more so than the pro-am which last year was awarded the NSW/ACT PGA City Pro-Am of the year.

"We are having a unlucky run of it at the moment with weather but the support of our sponsors and local community is superb and we are already looking forward to next year" said Castle Hill Head Professional David Northey.

In joint second place were four players including recent Mercedes-Benz Truck & Bus Victorian PGA Champion Aaron Townsend and Holden NZ PGA Champion and former winner at Castle Hill Matt Millar. Joining Townsend and Millar on three-under-par in second place was Brendan Smith and Josh Cabban.

Following the Easter break, The Choice Hotels PGA Pro-Am Series continues in Goulburn and Canberra next month with six events and prize money in excess of $85,000.
