Jin Jeong took out the AAMI Gisborne Ladbrokes Pro-Am with a round of 6-under 66, finishing two shots clear of Mitchell Ohlmus and three ahead of Jack Wilson, Luke Hickman and home town favourite Chris Gaunt.

""Gaunt set the early pace with 3-under 69 to be the clubhouse leader two shots clear of John Horvath and Andrew Kelly.

However, he was soon overtaken by Jeong whose round included seven birdies, one eagle and three bogeys including back-to-back bogeys on the 15th and 16th holes, his first two holes of the day.

“I thought, here we go again, another 85,” said Jeong who hit straight back with birdies on 17 and 18.

“I thought okay, I’m back on track I can grind this out.

“The course was amazing, the fairways are just perfect and the greens were really quick.”

After bogeying the 9th he was locked in a tie for first with morning leader Chris Gaunt at 3-under.

Jeong then birdied the 10th to go one clear and followed up with an eagle on the par-5 13th hole to move three clear of Gaunt.

Luke Hickman was 5-under coming to the par-3 3rd hole, his last hole.  He made double bogey to slip into a tie for third on 3-under 69.

Mitchell Ohlmus’ round included four birdies and an eagle but closeing bogeys on the 4th and the 15th cost him the lead.

Jeong will continue to get competitive golf under his belt before jetting over to the United States with an aim to Monday qualify on the Web.com Tour.

“I will be playing the pro-ams locally and then later in the year I’m going to go to the States to try and Monday qualify for a few Web.com Tour events.”
