After starting the final round in a share of the lead, Steven Jeffress has fired the round of the day to claim the 2015 Ian Weigh Toyota Rockhampton Pro-Am.

The 2014 Fiji International champion finished at 19-under, four shots ahead of Lincoln Tighe. Joint overnight leader Daniel Nisbet finished in a tie for third alongside Callan O’Reilly a shot further back.

Jeffress was quick out of the blocks in today’s final round, making the turn in 4-under to hold a four shot lead with nine holes to play. 

Tighe did his best to place pressure on Jeffress early on the back nine, but with a birdie at par 5 14th hole, to Tighe’s bogey, the 39 year New South Welshman had again regained the four shot lead with only four holes remaining.

A further bogey by Tighe at the 16th hole all but ended his challenge for the title, signing for a final round 71 and outright second. Even a penalty for an unplayable ball at the 17th would not derail Jeffress and with a birdie at his final hole, Jeffress would claim his first major trophy since the Fiji International last year.

"I am stoked with my performance this week, especially when the field here in Rockhampton is as good as any state-based Australasian Tour event," said Jeffress. "This is certainly one of the best run pro-ams we get to play each year and I guess that is the reason why there is always a quality field."

"It wasn’t easy out there today, but knowing that my game has really come together over the past week, I knew that if I stayed patient, I would give myself a chance at the end of the day. Thankfully I stayed in the moment and find myself here this evening holding onto this fine trophy."

Professionals will remain in Central Queensland for another week, with the inaugural Southern Great Barrier Reef Golf Championship kicking off at the Yeppoon Golf Club on Wednesday.
