Victorian Chris Gaunt has won the Greater Shepparton Trophy after claiming the inaugural $25,000 Mooroopna – Numurkah Pro-Am.

""Gaunt finished on 9-under-par after carding rounds of 68 and 68 to finish two stroke clear of Victorians Ben Ford and Josh Younger.

After holding the overnight lead with a scintillating 8-under-par 65 at Mooroopna Golf Club, Ford started his final round slowly, eventually posting a one over 73.

Younger on the other hand, came home with a course record equalling seven under 65 at Numurkah Golf and Bowls Club to join Ford in second place.

This year’s win is the third straight victory at Numurkah for Gaunt, winning the two previous pro-ams at the club before this year’s combined event.

"I was down to my last few dollars, so this means a lot to me.  It means I won’t have to pull out of the Western Australian PGA next week," said Gaunt at presentations.

With the support of the City of Greater Shepparton, Mooroopna and Numurkah combined their one day pro-am’s to become a two day 36-hole event, and one of the biggest pro-ams in the state.

Both the Mooroopna and Numurkah’s layouts were presented in sensational condition with all players raving about the firm fast greens.

Shepparton’s weather was on its best behaviour with two great days for golf, light to moderate winds with sunny skies making low scores essential for players wanting to stay in touch with the top of the leader board.

Centenary Park Teaching professional Gavin Campbell showed the quality of his game as he posted rounds of 70 and 69 to finish alone in fourth place on 6-under-par.

Young Victorian Luke Hickman maintained his lead in this year’s Order of Merit, however, a fast finishing David Bransdon has reduced his lead down to just over $1,500 with five events remaining in the season.

The next event of the Choice Hotels PGA Pro-Am Series is the $11,000 National Golf Club Pro-Am, Long Island course on Sunday 22nd November.

The Mooroopna – Numurkah Pro-Am is a part of the Choice Hotels PGA Pro-Am Series which comprises of 200 events Australia wide.
