Marcus Fraser showed his class to record a tough win at the Bendigo Bank Yering Meadows Ladbrokes Pro-Am shooting 3-under 69 in trying conditions.

""In the first Ladbrokes Pro-Am Series event at Yering Meadows since 2014, Ben Ford and Wade Lowrie set the early pace, both shooting a round of 1-under 71.

As the wind gusted up to 40km per hour in the afternoon, Ford and Lowrie were soon joined by Peter Wilson and Mitchell A. Brown on 1-under 71.

Eventual champion Fraser got off to a shaky start and was 1-over early after a bogey on the 3rd hole.

He hit back quickly with back-to-back birdies on the 4th and 5th holes and another on the 8th hole to be 2-under after the front-9.

He then birdied the 10th and the 17th holes to reach 4-under par and be three shots clear in the lead.

The 18th hole plays 380m, and uphill into the 40km/h wind Fraser’s 3-iron approach from 180m missed the green and he failed to get it up and down, finishing with a bogey and 3-under 69.

“I’m home for a couple of weeks and I wanted to keep a club in my hands so there is no better place than to come out here and have a game,” said Fraser.

“I’ve never played the course before and I was blown away,” he added with tongue firmly in cheek.

“It’s not the longest golf course, which is what I like, there are plenty of hazards out there and it just goes to show you don’t need the long courses that are getting built these days

“It’s a fantastic golf course with plenty of hazards and you really have to play out there.”

Fraser will now take the rest of the week off before playing in the ISPS HANDA PGA Tour of Australasia’s ISPS HANDA New Zealand Open, he will then resume his international playing schedule in Delhi.

“It’s pretty much two extremes for me in the next two weeks. I head to Queenstown and then Delhi the week after,”added Fraser.

“I’m looking forward to Queenstown, it’s one of the first ones on the list for the year, it’s an incredible place and tournament.”
