Cairns Classic returns

The Qantas Golf Club Cairns Classic will once again return to the PGA of Australia tournament schedule, with Paradise Palms set to play host to the event from the 4th-7th July 2016.

The Qantas Golf Club Cairns Classic will once again return to the PGA of Australia tournament schedule, with Paradise Palms set to play host to the event from the 4th-7th July 2016.

Last played in 2008, the Cairns Classic will take on a new concept this year, with the field set to host 30 of Australia’s best Tour Professionals up against 30 Senior Professionals from the E-Z-GO PGA Legends Tour, making it a battle of the ages.

Both Tour and Legend Professionals will compete for $50,000 in prizemoney, though to keep the competition fair, Legend Professionals will play from a slightly shorter course than that of their younger counterparts.

Paradise Palms General Manager Peter Blackburn is delighted to again see Paradise Palms play host to a major professional golf tournament, and is looking forward to what the event will bring to the community.

"We are very excited to have revitalised this fantastic event and hope to bring many more world-class golfing events to Cairns."

"It is our goal to attract a wide variety of golf competitions to Cairns and encourage golfers to experience one of Australia’s best and most challenging courses."

The Classic will be much more than just a golf tournament, with a number of community engagements set to take place throughout the week. From sponsor’s days to junior clinics, Professionals will be looking to leave their mark on a community that loves sporting events. With over 100 amateurs set to compete, it will no doubt be a tournament that leaves them with many fond memories.

PGA of Australia Queensland / Norther Territory Division State Manager Broc Greenhalgh is pleased to see what was formally a marquee event for the region return to the tournament schedule.

"It is our hope that profiling the region once again as a premium golfing destination, whilst supporting the local golfing community, will create multiple benefits across the regional area."

"The PGA is really pleased to be working with wonderful brands like Qantas Golf Club and Paradise Palms in bringing the tournament to fruition and we are excited about showcasing a new concept in professional golf."
